BAA Stansted
With over 40% of its passengers using public transport, Stansted has the highest number of visitors using rail and bus to get to and from any airport in the UK.
To further encourage passenger uptake of public transport, ease pressure on ground staff and support investment into the new bus and coach station, in 2007, Cityspace was contracted to design and install a network of information terminals in the baggage reclaim halls.
The customised BAA touch screen ‘Pods’ give travellers all their transport options from the airport to any location in the South East. The multi-modal journey planner finds the fastest route options and provides a printable route map for every leg of the journey. The system also includes exact rail times, bus routes and timetables as well as road and rail disruption news.
Expansion of the Pod network is currently being considered for the new terminal extension at Stansted and BAA is also talking to Cityspace about large display screens to drive greater awareness of the Pod services and deliver important passenger announcements.
“Cityspace came to us with a clear, cost-effective solution to accessible information at the point of need – especially pertinent in the baggage reclaim halls which are very busy areas with high passenger throughput.
“In providing this service, we recognise that the journey doesn’t end at the airport. By equipping passengers with an easy to access transport information service at the point of need, we are helping our customers make informed decisions throughout their journey.”
