Essex awards Cityspace contract for content management system for real-time passenger information delivery

Cityspace Vision puts Council in control of real-time information services at and the point of need

London, 9th June 2008 – Cityspace today announces its selection by Essex County Council to provide an integrated content management system to support the Local Authority’s expanding Park & Ride initiative and bring real-time information and services to passengers on the move.

Cityspace Vision is a highly advanced content management system which will provide Essex with the tools to broadcast travel, traffic and real-time departure information services to the LCD screens in the Chelmsford Park & Ride, as well as across the network of seven Smart Columns at interchanges, bus stops and passenger hubs in town centre.

Directly helping people on the move to plan their journeys with confidence, Cityspace Vision provides real-time bus and rail information and disruption notices at the point of need with the capability to broadcast emergency and public service messages. The content management system is a powerful authoring tool to create, schedule and deliver content. It boasts complex feed management handling to transform UTMC real-time data and Cityspace services into valuable public-focused information.

“We’re investing heavily in Park & Ride schemes to tackle congestion and poor air quality,” said Tony Ciaburro, Director of Highways and Transportation, Essex County Council.

“This is a clever, low maintenance integrated system which hands us full control. We are looking at expanding it to encompass a mobile phone service for bus arrival times – these are the kinds of services which will get people to buy in to public transport.”

The network of Smart Columns, which already delivers journey planning and a raft of interactive services, will broadcast real-time bus and train arrivals and departures and disruption information from key transport hubs around Chelmsford, delivering on-street services to the widest possible audience.

“We are delighted to have been selected by Essex for this pivotal public service,” says Guy Wolfenden, Director, Cityspace Transport.

“At Cityspace, we are dedicated to improving the passenger experience and have found that easy access to accurate transport information and services goes a long way to convincing people that public transport is a convenient option.”

The service is due to go live by the summer.

End.
